Gary Coffey

Gary Coffey has been a Deputy for the Utah County Sheriff’s Office for over a decade with experience in corrections and patrol. Gary worked in the Gang Unit and the DTT (Detention Response Team) while serving for approximately five years in the Utah County Jail.
Gary transitioned out to patrol with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, and he currently serves as a firearms instructor (since 2018) and is a member of his agency’s SWAT Team.
Tasked with establishing and maintaining a new Department-wide DT program, Gary successfully started this program and currently oversees the training of approximately 350 sworn members. Gary and the Utah County SO use C4C PJJ as the foundation of the current department curriculum.
Gary is a Current DT Instructor for Utah and certified Utah POST Instructor Dev. He has instructed DT for the state since 2015 with recruits and at the Utah Valley Police Academy since 2017. He is also CIT certified (Crisis Intervention Tactics) and has taught the Community women’s course Rape Aggression Defense Systems for the Utah County SO since 2019.
Gary has trained No Gi BJJ and MMA since 2013 and now trains BJJ/MMA at Agema MMA under Coaches Dayne Aristizabal and Court McGee and is currently a BJJ Blue Belt. Gary has extensive C4C PJJ instruction, including weapon retention, ground fighting for LEO, custom LEO courses, and completing the C4T-IC Instructor Course.
